Stroud Beresford Group wins National Lottery Funding
The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded the Stroud Beresford Group £272,970 for its ‘Safer Lives Outreach Development Project’. Stroud Beresford Group - an independent Stroud-based charity - provides a range of services for people affected by domestic abuse including Gloucestershire’s only women’s refuge. The funding provides a major boost to the local charity and will help it to support hundreds of local people who are at risk of domestic abuse.
The Safer Lives Project is a five-year project that focuses on preventing harm caused by abusive relationships, raising awareness of healthy and unhealthy relationships with young people and working with vulnerable women in the community who are struggling to access support.
Domestic abuse is one of the leading causes of harm to women and children. Official statistics often underestimate domestic abuse because it often goes unreported. Despite this, we know through government statistics that 1.3 million women experience domestic abuse every year in England and Wales and around 7 women are killed every month.
Jill Cooper, CEO of Stroud Women’s Refuge:
“We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to support more people in need in the Stroud District. Thank you to so much to the National Lottery Community Fund and thank you to everyone who plays the Lottery – the Lottery makes a real difference to peoples’ lives.”
